The term 'leitmotif', or leading motive, was first coined by Wagner.

5.B

Program music is the term for music which tells a story, or evokes extramusical imagery.

This was Gounod's most famous work.

The above answers are pretty clear cut. The Brahms question is not well set though. Brahms' music is often described as thick and heavy. It's either B or D, I'd probably go with D.

Edit: I'm having a short discussion with two of my friends right now on the Brahms question, and they agree that D is the closest option. You'll find very little dissonant Brahms, though there are some passages in works such as the Violin Concerto and the famous G minor Rhapsody. Other works, such as the last movement of the G minor piano quartet and the Violin Concerto suggest that his music is highly optimistic and charged with positive emotions.

How do you deal with someone who has decided he or she is your enemy?

People who tell stories or lies to hurt you or your reputation, or to make someone else want to fight you, or have you expelled or arrested? All ages welcome: I've experienced this from time to time since puberty, and at 58 still find it hard to deal with. Most recent was a jealous co-worker at a symphony orchestra who falsely accused me of harassment. Nothing to do -- she happened to be a "minority" and out I went. But it's happened in school, in bars, even in AA as well as in workplaces as varied as Dominos Pizza to the top of the fashion business in Paris. I have fought some of the worst where the cause seemed worthwhile for myself or another in court -- but win or lose it's so time, money, and eventually even soul consuming. Any practical suggestions?

Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.

I try to live by that one, but when I apply it to my ex-husband of 13 years, who is still trying the stuff you talk about, well, it makes it repulsive to say the least. But yeah, stuff like that has happened to me, too, since I was a teenager, and I still haven't figured it out either. I've had friends tell me it is because they are jealous of me and want what I have or to control me. I've also had other friends tell me that there is something in that negative person that is still within me, that I need to work out for myself, and then the problem will go away. I think it is a bit of both.

i would use her actions to make her into an unstable person and tell every one whom we both know how sorry I am for her.
i ignore them.

lol! believe me I am ver good at ignoring annoying people and undesirables :)
Well, the girl above me wants to rip off my face... just as she said. Shoot... I should let her have it, huh? I'd be a martyr for the sake of sparing society the sight of her ugly mug. Well, if she can't have my face, I guess she'll just have to settle for having my avatar. Whomp, whomp....

When someone dies, is it not their "essence of being" that you miss?

Call it a soul, essence, heart, whatever you wish. I do not believe in god/s but there is an energy that is lost in your life when someone you love dies. It's hard to explain, but it's sort of a feeling, like when you feel someone is near or looking at you. When they die that is gone, the feeling their life energy/essence whatever added to your life is gone. It's strange but you feel it. My cat recently died I had 4 cats even though I wasn't always right there with them all I "felt" their presence all the time wherever I was and whatever I was doing I was always aware of them all. When Crickett died I felt like I lost something more than just her physical presence. Her energy was gone.. like I lost an instrument in my life symphony. it feels like there is a void where she should be. Even if you don't believe in a "soul" you have to admit there is a "feeling" about another that is gone when they die.. What do you think?

When someone dies, is it not their "essence of being" that you miss?chinese theater

We were made in God's image which is love...and to lose love...in any form is sad. I have lost 10 pets in my years, all mostly to old age. Depending upon the circumstances the sadness is for ourselves and our loss, possibly not for those that pass on including our pets..

and since we live in a shell...I believe our pets also just live in a shell...

I believe all "inner spiritual essence" given to all creation is given to us by God at birth and returns to God at death for resurrection on the final Judgement day.

Our pets of course are eternally good as God made them if not corrupted by humans...and will be again too with our essence in time.

Our "heavy earthly body", goes in the ground...ashes to ashes...dust to dust...and so forth.

When someone dies, is it not their "essence of being" that you miss?opera mini opera theater

We're supposed to miss people when they're gone?

What's the point in that? It's not like missing them will bring them back.....
I agree with you. It is interesting that I find just the opposite when something takes it's first breath.
Feelings do not constitute evidence. I'm sorry your cat died but your entire post does not qualify as objective thinking about souls by any means.
yea, we do have a soul...another example is when a baby crying in everyone elses hands except for her mothers, if thats not a special bond...what is it? gimme a scientific explanation to that one, no offence to you.
Missing a person is generated by memories. Without memories, you'll miss nothing.
Most don't get it. But I do, and I know what is next. Isaw it I felt it . Contact me, I will tell you.
1.It's called emotions, you know, chemical reactions in your brain.

2.Dead bodies feel heavier because they are completely relaxed; try to pick someone up who relaxes their whole body, you'll see what I mean.
We all have a spirit covered in flesh. That is why you feel the person/cat is gone, because who they areally are has left. When I had a near death experience, I felt the real me (spirit) start to leave my body. It felt just like me also, personality and all, but just without the body. Life is real and exciting even after death.
The physical body *is* a "shell" for the soul to occupy while on the physical plane. I can relate to your loss.

I believe all relationships are karmic and those "relationships" will continue to incarnate back into your life until karma is balanced. Your cat may be back with you again ... perhaps on two legs!
i believe that over a period of time the essence is what we miss but only when we can no longer remember there physical the substance of there being is what is missed to most.
I know what you mean... I had a cat who died not long ago, too. I went out and dug through three feet of snow and frozen ground to bury him. He was a small cat, only about a year old, but it felt like I was trying to carry a lead weight. I think it might be the grief as well that puts us in a different state of mind and makes us experience things in a slightly different way.
Your feelings are caused by memories, nothing more. The brain is a complex machine and make you feel all sorts of weird things / sensations, etc.
I miss the person, their presence.

The Duck Hunter, last one tonight...enjoy?

A duck hunter was out enjoying a nice morning on the marsh

when he decided to take a leak. He walked over to a tree and

propped up his gun. Just then a gust of wind blew, the gun

fell over, and discharged, shooting him in the genitals.

Several hours later, lying in a hospital bed he was approached

by his doctor.

"Well sir, I have some good news and some bad news.

The good news is that you are going to be ok, the damage was

local to your groin, there was very little internal damage,

and we were able to remove all of the buck shot. The bad news

is that there was some pretty extensive damage done to your

penis. I'm going to have to refer you to my brother."

"Oh, well I guess that isn't too bad, "

the duck hunter replied. "Is your brother a plastic

surgeon?"

"Not exactly, " answered the doctor. "He's

a flute player in the local symphony. He's going to

teach you where to put your fingers so you don't p*ss

in your eye."

What's the one thing you can do that would make somebody retch?

Me, I have the ability to make ladies everywhere retch. All I haveta do is put a video up of me as I take my shirt off and rub baby oil all over my body. And there ya have it. A symphony of barf heard 'round the country!! :)

The only thing I've ever done to make someone retch is get them drunk as f***. I had one friend....lets call him Daryl....he was so drunk he started to puke in my neighbors living room on their coffee table (yeah....I know...sick!) then we got him a trash can from the bathroom. As his heads in the trashcan we're yellin at him....theres bloody tampons in there...its amazing how funny it is to do that to some poor sick guy....but hey, you puke on a coffee table you kind of deserve it.....

Oh, I can do a lot of things that could make the average person retch... I'd rather not get into detail, though, so I don't get sued for causing others to ruin their keyboards.
oh i highly doubt that hun

I'm not sure... the only thing I can think of is that one cup two girls thing but I'd NEVER do that

Nothing really grosses me out.. Dead people, smells, vomit, piss, ****, nothing ... Even that movie I mentioned didn't gross me out
UNCUT!!!

I can do a lot of things to make others retch:

I can move my eyes independently. I can turn one in towards my nose and the other one is straight. I can also hold one turned in and move the other one back and forth.

I make a disgusted sound that actually sounds like someone puking (I'm not puking, I just make the sound)

I pretend to hack up hairballs like my cat does. Grosses some people out every time!

I have so many more things but don't have the time or the space to list all of them.

Oh, yeah...when I start describing to my sister just how a tattoo is done, she starts to retch! Some people don't like needles, I guess....
I've never even been nauseaed by the sight of any nude, or half nude person. Only smells make me nauceous, so far anyway. I'm sure if I seen a gutted person(or animal) in front of me, I'd proabley throw up several times over, if I don't pass out that is.
HAHAHA! I made someone gag when she saw me take out and replace my tongue ring.

Cut. I heart mushroom.
Talk about work while you are eating...remember, I'm a nurse...you couldn't make me retch Pete....

cut
I have sum farts that could make people retch, hey when you eat a lot of protein it happens...
I can't think of anything off-hand that I can (or would) do to make somebody retch. Except maybe give birth. Some people can't handle that. My first husband nearly fainted the first time, lol!

As for cut or uncut, it totally depends on WHAT we are talking about! If money is no object, I prefer to buy my lunchmeats and cheeses fresh from the deli and have it sliced while I wait. Tastes better that way.

If we are talking about movies, it depends on what has been cut and why. Usually I'd prefer to see the whole thing in it's entirety.

As for anything else, well, it just depends.
i can changed a baby's diaper while eating a sandwich

doesnt matter ....its all good
